Cardiff to London is one of our regular long-distance routes. It is roughly 150 miles, usually three to four hours on the M4 depending on traffic, so it is a full-day job for most homes. Here is how to plan it so the day runs smoothly.
How much does a Cardiff to London move cost?
The price depends on four things:
- How much you are moving, which decides the size of van and how many people we send.
- Distance and time, including the return journey.
- Access at both ends, such as stairs, lifts and how far the van can park from the door.
- Extras, such as packing, furniture dismantling and weekend dates.
The quickest way to get a figure is our instant quote calculator. Enter both addresses and what you are moving, and it works out the distance for you. Because long-distance moves vary more, we will also call you to confirm the details before anything is booked.
Choosing the right day
- Midweek is easiest. Tuesday to Thursday usually means quieter roads and more choice of dates. Weekend moves cost more.
- Avoid Friday afternoons. The M4 into London is often very slow from early afternoon onwards.
- Book early. Long-distance moves take a whole day of a van and crew, so popular dates go first. Two to four weeks’ notice is ideal.
Parking in London
Parking is the biggest difference between a Cardiff move and a London one. Many London streets are controlled parking zones, and some councils let you book a parking bay suspension so the van can stop right outside. Check your new borough’s website a few weeks ahead, because suspensions often need several working days’ notice. If you are moving into a flat, ask the building manager about loading bays, lift bookings and any time restrictions.
ULEZ and the Congestion Charge
The Ultra Low Emission Zone covers all London boroughs, and the Congestion Charge applies in central London on set days and times. Our van meets the ULEZ standard. If your new address is inside the Congestion Charge zone, mention it when you book so it can be built into your quote.
