The short answer: book 2 to 4 weeks ahead for most house moves in Cardiff, and earlier if you need a Friday, Saturday or the last few days of the month. Smaller jobs, like a single sofa or a few boxes, can often be done within a day or two.

Why timing matters

Most people move on the same few days. Tenancies tend to start and end at the end of the month, house sales often complete on a Friday, and weekends suit anyone who works Monday to Friday. Those dates fill up first, so the earlier you book, the more choice you have.

Typical lead times

• Single items and small loads: often same week, sometimes next day.
• Studio and 1-bedroom flats: around 1 to 2 weeks.
• 2 to 3-bedroom houses: 2 to 4 weeks, more if you also want packing.
• Weekends and month-end: book as early as you can. Weekend moves also cost 20% more than weekdays.
• Student moves in Cathays and Roath: the end of June, July and September are the busiest times of the year. Book as soon as you know your dates.
